GLOBAL TRADE GROWS DESPITE WAR

Published: 07/03/2026Views: 14

Despite geopolitical conflicts and the risk of supply chain disruptions, global trade is still showing signs of recovery.

According to data from the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB), the volume of goods moving across global borders increased by 0.7% in April, after falling by 2.3% in March.

This recovery was driven by many businesses proactively increasing inventories of goods and components to prepare for possible supply disruptions and price volatility caused by conflicts.

Notably, the wave of investment in AI continues to boost trade in semiconductors, electronic equipment and high-tech sectors. This is considered one of the key drivers helping global goods flows maintain growth.

International organizations have also issued more positive forecasts. The WTO expects global trade to grow by 2.5% this year, while the World Bank (WB) has raised its forecast for global trade growth in 2026 to 2.9%.

This shows that global trade is not standing still in the face of volatility. Instead, it is adapting and finding new growth drivers.

For businesses, this is an important reminder: to capture opportunities in a changing market, companies need to prepare better in terms of raw material supply, cash flow, inventory, logistics and flexible supply chain capacity.

Protus works alongside businesses to support raw material procurement, optimize cash flow and strengthen supply chain capabilities.
